Digging into World Food Day

Somehow yesterday got marked as “World Food Day” …

It’s pretty crazy to think about all the different dishes there are around the world; there are truly endless options when it comes to what to eat.

To start small: for lunch today I had a hot falafel Gozi from a Mediterranean Grill, Piperi, near school.  On the other hand, I know Michaela had buffalo chicken and mashed potatoes for her dinner.  Those are two very very different meals yet we got them within a five mile radius of each other.

On a larger scale, think of how the fish selection in Canada varies from the fish selection in South Africa.  Or how the average Italian consumes over 51lbs of pasta every year and Asians consume nearly 300lb of rice/person/year.

I pulled up some top food choices around the world to give us a better perspective of the variety of foods:

One of my favorite parts of traveling is tasting the culture; there are unique traditional meals and forms of meal prep in every single culture.  It’s so fun to be able to learn about it; after I graduate I hope to eat my way through Western Europe!

[Worldly] Food for Thought:

What’s your favorite authentic dish?  Where’s the best dessert you’ve ever had?  Are you outgoing when it comes to trying traditional food from forgien places?  Have you ever wondered what the usual dinner is in Qatar?  When’s the next time you’re going to go to a real Mexican joint for dinner?
